Win a FREE Robotic Pool Cleaner

Nitro Wall Climber NC52

Nitro Wall Climber In-Ground Pool Cleaner

Now through July 15th you can enter for a chance to win a FREE Robotic Pool Cleaner when you bring us your water sample for balancing!

I know what you’re thinking.  “Do I have to buy anything?”  Well, yes.  That’s pretty much how we stay in business.  However, you won’t have to buy anything you don’t need.

To become eligible for the drawing all you have to do is purchase a minimum of $25 worth of the recommended chemicals to get your pool water balanced.

Improper water balance is the leading cause of algae growth and liner/equipment degradation.  Keeping your water balanced ensures that your chlorine products work the way they are supposed to in order to keep your pool clean and bacteria-free.  So, you’re really only doing what you need to do to keep your pool safe for you and your family.  The bonus is you get to enter to win a FREE pool cleaner.

SmartKleen Aboveground Pool Cleaner

SmartKleen Aboveground Pool Cleaner

We are only talking about water balance here.  You are not required to purchase chlorine products or algaecide to qualify for the drawing.  The balancing chemicals are:

  • pH Increaser or Decreaser
  • Total Alkalinity Increaser
  • Calcium Hardness Increaser
  • Stabilizer (Conditioner)

Them’s the ones.  That’s all.  One other important note is that there is no limit to the number of entries you can have.  If you want to come in and have your water tested once a week until July 15th, that’s cool.  As long as you purchase the chemicals to balance your water you can enter as many times as you like.  The winner will be announced on July 16th.

With the massive amount of rain we have had over the last few days, now is the perfect time to bring in that first water sample.  Your pool water has been diluted with rainwater and you could probably use a few chemicals to get it back in shape.  We utilize the fastest and most accurate water testing system available, so you know you will get fast, reliable results.

We are located in Greenwood across from Greenwood Mall.  Our business hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30 and Saturday 9-5.  Come in and see us!

Don’t Be Fooled By Clear Pool Water

When it comes to clean, safe pool water, there’s more to it than meets the eye. As Summer cranks up and the kids spend more and more time swimming, it is important that you make sure your kids are bathing in clean, healthy water. Just because the water is clear doesn’t mean it is safe. For healthy swimming pool water, there’s much more than meets the eye.

Water clarity is an indication that your pool is free of particulates, but it is no guarantee that your pool water is bacteria-free and safe for your child’s eyes, ears, nose and skin. Many pool owners get a false sense of safety when they look into the pool and see crystal clear water. However, to ensure the safety of your loved ones who bathe in your pool, there are many other things you must consider.

Many times, pools with a dangerously low pH can appear sparkling and beautiful. What you don’t see is that the water is corrosive and irritating to your eyes and skin. Many people attribute burning eyes to high chlorine levels. While extremely high chlorine levels can cause some irritation, the most likely cause of the burning is an improperly balanced pH. What’s more, a low pH makes the chlorine in the water overactive, causing it to break down and gas off much more quickly than normal. This leaves your pool with little free chlorine to kill dangerous bacteria such as cryptosporidium, E. Coli and Pseudonomas.  A high pH can have equally damaging effects, making chlorine in your pool inactive and unable to kill bacteria.

Keeping a balanced pH between 7.2 and 7.6 is essential for maintaining safe pool water. Balancing your Total Alkalinity makes it much easier to manage the pH and eliminates pH drift. Total Alkalinity should be kept between 80 and 120 parts per million, depending on your type of sanitizing system.

A common misconception is that salt pools do not require anything other than salt to be safe and clean. Nothing could be further from the truth. The salt in the pool is only used to produce chlorine. The water balancing requirements for a salt pool are virtually the same as a non-salt pool. Salt pools still require balanced Total Alkalinity, pH, Calcium Harness, and Cyanuric Acid or stabilizer. If you own a salt pool, you must not ignore these requirements.

Aquarium Lovers, Bet You Never Thought of This

aquariumI love aquariums.  I don’t have one, but I love them.  There’s something about the trickle of the water and the graceful motion of the fish as they ease about that just calms the soul.  I bet there are a lot of you out there that have aquariums and devote many hours per month caring for the fish within and their habitat.  Good for you.  It’s a wonderful hobby and can be quite rewarding.

I don’t know why, but fish love to play in the sand or gravel at the bottom of the tank and suck it up and spit it out.  It’s just a fish thing, I guess.  Over the past few months, I’ve had a customer start using our filter sand for his aquarium.  Here are some of the reasons he told me he switched to our filter sand:

  • Cheaper – At $8.00 per 50 lb. bag he says it is way cheaper than aquarium sand which can range from $25 to $75 depending on the type.
  • Cleaner – The sand doesn’t have all the fine particles that tend to cloud the water.  When it is poured in it goes straight to the bottom and stays there.
  • Better for Equipment – Filter sand doesn’t clog the filters and wear out the bearings in the aquarium pump.  Expensive aquarium equipment will last longer.
  • Fish Love It – He says that since he has switched to filter sand, his fish are much more active around the bottom of the tank and spend a lot more time playing in the sand, adding to his enjoyment.

So there you have it.  Try using our filter sand in your aquarium and see what your fish think.  Even if your fish aren’t blown away by the change at least you’ll be saving money, and that’s something we can all appreciate.

Never Trust a Groundhog…Never

Untrustworthy Rodent

This morning, it didn’t take long for me to figure out that Winter isn’t over yet (I’m pretty sharp).  The sign in front of Hodges elementary indicated 35°.  My windshield indicated rain.  What a gloomy combination!  Seems like only two days ago I was out enjoying a nice Sunday afternoon round of golf in short sleeves.  My, how quickly the weather changes this time of year.  Never trust a groundhog.

One thing that has always irritated me about drastically changing outdoor temperatures is trying to keep the house comfortable.  One day the heat is on and the next day I’m running the A/C.  That can’t be good for the pocketbook.  I used to think, “If only there was a way to cheaply heat only the space I was using I could save tons of money!”

I finally did start saving tons of money the day I bought an Edenpure heater.  I put one upstairs to keep the kids warm at night and discovered I didn’t even need to turn the upstairs heating unit on!  I went from using a gas central heating unit, burning who knows how many BTU’s, to using a small electric infrared heater that only costs about $0.11 an hour to operate.  I haven’t turned the upstairs central heat on in 3 years! Cha-Ching!

The Edenpure Gen2

The Edenpure Gen2 only $197

This past year, I bought an Edenpure Gen2 for my bedroom.  I had been running my gas fireplace really hot (about 74°) so the heat would get back to my bedroom and keep it at least 69°.  Once I put the Gen2 in the bedroom, I was able to turn the fireplace down to 70° or lower and the Gen2 kept me as warm as I wanted to be at night.  The best part about all this is that the wife loves it!  It may not sound like a big deal but trust me, four degrees on the thermostat equals huge savings on the gas bill.  HUGE!  Finally buying something the wife approves of was huge, too.  HUGE!

We probably have at least 6 or 8 more weeks of weather that will dip below the comfort zone.  What will you do to heat up your spaces?  How much will it cost you?  Come get an Edenpure heater and you will save money just like I did…um, just like I still do.

Destination: Lazy Days by the Pool. We’ve got your ticket…and It’s FREE

lazy_bumI’ve heard it said before that ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy.  And while I tend to agree, for the most part, being lazy is rarely ever the best way to go.  The grass gets too high and your cleanest dirty shirt sometimes isn’t clean enough.

Even though laziness is frowned upon by most of society and viewed as a negative character trait, owning a swimming pool entitles you to a certain degree of laziness.  After all, if owning a pool was supposed to be all work, nobody in their right mind would own one.

Our newly redesigned web site,, is a way you can squeeze a little more relaxation time out of your day and enjoy being lazy around the pool.

Features of our new site include:

  • Online ordering of chemicals and equipment
  • FREE next-day delivery (zip codes 29646 & 29649)
  • Pricing that beats most national catalog brands
  • Professional assistance with product selection
  • Special deals, promotions, & contests that save you money

Of course, we always like to see you face to face so we can provide you with our free water analysis service and ask how you’ve been.  But, it should be reassuring for “professional relaxers” in Greenwood to know that when you need products for your pool you  don’t have to leave the house.  If you have a PC, tablet, or smart phone, pool products are just a click away!

Next time you are in need of pool chemicals, give our new site a try.  Use promo code SPRING13 to receive 15% off your first order!
